Monika Mayer - Tessellation # 8-11 - Yellow Glow
Four deconstructed soccer balls, yarn, new hand-sewn seams, acrylic paint, beads and wire
200 x 122 x 10 cm
2024
Monika Mayer is a multidisciplinary artist born in Germany and based in Berkeley, California. Inspired by nature and lived experience, her practice spans painting, fibre sculpture, printmaking, and mixed media. She transforms discarded materials — inner tubes, soccer balls, and found objects — into abstract forms through repetition and accumulation. Repeated patterns echo life’s rhythms, speaking to cycles of change, resilience, and renewal. By presenting the familiar in unfamiliar ways, she invites viewers to pause, look closely, and find beauty hidden in the ordinary. Her work is held in private collections in the U.S. and Germany and has been exhibited nationally.
