Acrylic on canvas 35 x 45 x 4 cm 2025 My work explores identity, heritage, and belonging through the visual language of football and traditional masks. By pairing national football shirts with ceremonial and cultural masks from different regions, I examine how identity is performed, projected, and understood within contemporary society. Football shirts act as instantly recognisable symbols of nationhood and collective belonging, while masks carry histories of ritual, power, and transformation. Through these combinations, the paintings question fixed ideas of nationality and suggest more fluid, layered forms of cultural identity shaped by migration, fandom, ancestry, and personal connection.
