Charlotte C Mortensson - Ludi Board, Denham Town, Jamaica
Archival quality photographic print, unique print 48.5 x 48.5 x 5 cm 2025 Charlotte C Mortensson is a Swedish photographer and film maker based in London and Kingston Jamaica. For two decades she has recorded the social housing in Trench Town, working closely with local historians, artists and residents. The ever expanding project encompasses an ongoing series about the importance of football in the community. Many of Jamaica’s greatest national and international players started out playing barefoot in the street with bricks marking the goal posts. Famous footballers, for instance the player and national coach, Carl Brown, are honoured with murals on the sides of buildings. She is currently recording a series of interviews with past and past and present notable players from Trench Town. The artist’s work has been exhibited in museums and galleries across the UK, including Touchstones Rochdale; the Lowry, Salford; the British Museum in London; the Royal Scottish AcademyEdinburgh (including this year’s 200 Year Anniversary Exhibition) and in the Summer Exhibition at the Royal Academy in London. Work has also been shown in Zurich and at the University of the West Indies in Kingston Jamaica.
